Dear subscribers, dear visitors of our websites, dear friends

Goodbye to the Walfer Bicherdeeg 2015 that were a great success. We are pleased to have welcomed many interested people at our information booth. We hope that our new subscribers can find the necessary information on our websites.

We are often asked about the difference between the 3 Luxembourgish Genealogical Associations. We try to give our response below:

Team working in Genealogy for the future is the motto of the luxroots Genealogy group. Over 50 associates enter every day details of more than 600 records in our non-profit database. Through this volunteer work, our subscribers can advance more quickly in their genealogical research. With our myluxroots applications, they can even contribute to the common contruction of the family tree of Luxembourg. Over 240 subscribers and associates are already participating in this project by entering information about their recent family. luxroots becomes increasingly the Genealogy Center of Luxembourg.

The National Archives in Luxembourg keep microfilmed documents of birth and baptism for the period ~1601 to 1923. The number of births/baptisms informed on these documents can be estimated at 1.1 million for this period.
On the basis of the luxroots work done up to this day, we estimate that almost 775,000 birth certificates for the period 1798-1923 are available. Currently, we have entered the details of 707,000 birth certificates. Births of the cantons of Capellen, Clervaux, Diekirch, Echternach, Mersch, Redange, Vianden, and Wiltz and Luxembourg (99%) are entered or will be completed shortly.
We plan to complete the entry of the 60,000 remaining records until mid-2016, mostly from the cantons of Esch-sur-Alzette, Grevenmacher and Remich.
8,000 births (mostly of the former townships of Eich, Hamm, Hollerich and Rollingergrund for the period 1914-1923) are currently not available and must be entered later.

Our entry of baptisms (before 1798) is already well advanced. Details of baptisms of the majority of parishes situated in the northern cantons have mostly be entered (94,000). 29,000 additional baptisms were entered in other regions of Luxembourg. We estimate that the available documents hold a maximum of 320,000 baptisms,so that we still have to enter details for 197,000 records. We expect to complete this entry of baptisms in 2019. (Click on the graph for a larger view!) ▲

We just passed the gap of 100,000 marriage certificates. Generally, we can confirm that details of all marriages 1840-1923 for the cantons of Clervaux, Diekirch, Echternach, Mersch, Redange, Vianden, Wiltz and several townships of the cantons of Capellen and Luxembourg are entered. We estimate to be able to finish entering marriage certificates 1840-1923 until mid-2017.
Concerning the 1797-1839 period, the marriages are entered or will be completed soon for the cantons of Clervaux, Vianden, Wiltz, Diekirch (70%) and Redange (80%).

Since April 2013 until November 2015, our associate Paulette GRUN-BESCH completed the entry of the 57,829 births 1796-1923 of the city of Luxembourg. Meanwhile, other associates entered 41,000 birth certificates (-1913) of the former municipalities of Eich, Hamm, Hollerich and Rollingergrund. The most widespread names in the city of Luxembourg are: SCHMIT (663) MULLER (625) BEFFORT (431) HOFFMANN (403) MEYER (392), REUTER (379) WAGNER (365) WEBER (362) KREMER (357) THILL (346) FUNCK, MERSCH, KIEFFER, KLEIN, STEFFEN, ...

If today, we talk about Luxembourg genealogy, we think luxroots. Therefore, let us build together the genealogy tree of Luxembourg! luxroots is the genealogical association in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg whose associates do not work on personal databases, but enter data online directly to the non-profit luxroots-database.
That's why working together makes us so powerful. Provided that you are able to analyze records of civil registers or even of parish registers, and you want to be part of a dynamic team of volunteers as part of the cross-border and non-profit project, please contact us!
You do not need to go to townships or to archives. luxroots makes available to its associates the pictures of the records of a certain township/parish free of charge which they plan to analyze and enter the details in the luxroots-database.
Do not hesitate to participate in this great puzzle of genealogy of Luxembourg by analyzing and capturing the details of the records of your preferred township or parish. Check our inventory of records of townships/parishes
to be analyzed soon or other available documents.

Today, more than 4,000 visitors from around the world are registered on www.luxroots.com. 790 of these visitors support the luxroots projects! If you are not yet among these people, join them now!

We invite you to our conference on former jobs given by the historian Isabelle BERNARD at the mill of Beckerich on Thurday, December 3rd, 2015 at 2:30pm. Free entrance.

Looking for your ancestors to establish a pedigree chart without having to pay hundreds or even thousands of dollars or euros? Then, nothing simpler, register with luxroots.com, take a subscription and login!
Our
myluxroots transactions, and especially the transaction Add a child of a couple allows you to enter your recent family by connecting to the ancestors already entered by one of our associates! This done, we help you to complete your pedigree chart for ancestors born and married in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg after 1800. In addition, we will reward this collaboration with myluxroots points. On the record of the entered person, you find a button 'Pedigree Chart' which enables you to display this chart. A pedigree chart up to 9 generations can be established for a child born after 1999, until 8 generations for young people born after 1975, until 7 generations for people born after 1949, 6 generations for people born after 1923, otherwise until 4 generations. These people were usually entered by a subscriber using the myluxroots transactions. Check this with our demo videos.

The above picture is that of Henri GRECHEN, born in 1865 in Aubange(B), married in 1900 in Luxembourg with Elise Marie Leonie DUHAUT, born in France. The picture was added by Paulette GRUN-BESCH through the transaction 'Add Picture (s)' of our myluxroots application. Henri and his wife emigrated to the USA in 1900. Paulette would be interested to get in contact with descendants of this couple.
