Working together on genealogy for the future, that is the motto of the luxroots group
This makes us one of the most successful providers of Luxembourgish genealogical data.

The quality of our information and the satisfaction of our subscribers and visitors are our priorities.

The luxroots project was launched in 2004 by Georges EICHER. Since its start, the website www.luxroots.com was available on a server dedicated to this website to ensure a quick response to the requests of the visitors. During the early years, financial support from subscribers did not cover the costs of the project and therefore the project was funded by its founder. With your growing support in recent years, we are now able to announce the forthcoming integration of the luxroots projects in a nonprofit association.

An association of genealogy and local history will soon be set up and will aim to:
  • promote, in all its forms , genealogy and local history study of Luxembourg,
  • publish the results of this research, including using all current and future techniques of electronics and communication,
  • promote the websites www.luxroots.com, www.roots.lu, www.igenealogy.lu, www.luxbooks.lu and other future websites and any activity directly or indirectly related to the corporate purpose of the association,
  • encourage and facilitate the exchange of information among its members,
  • participate in activities at national and international levels in order to develop and coordinate the genealogy and local history research
  • represent all of its members in their dealings with public authorities , cultural institutions and similar foreign companies.

The annual membership fee will amount to 8 euros. Associates of the luxroots projects, luxroots.com subscribers as well as the contributors of www.igenealogy.lu are automatically members of the association without additional expense unless they renounce to be a member of the new association.
Thus, luxroots becomes the largest genealogical society of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg with approximately 500 members.

Obvious benefits for members for this minimal contribution are:

One goal of the new association will be:
- to encourage and facilitate the exchange of information among its members,
In this context, luxroots offers a
transaction whereby the members and subscribers can do a search on a family name and the transaction will return a list of identified luxroots visitors researching this name. By clicking on the name of the visitor, your email opens with a prepared message to this visitor. Ask him/her questions and wait for the replay! This may be the key to finding your distant cousins!

luxroots as initiator of the National Genealogy Days had proposed to co-organize this event with the two other genealogical associations the common organization of such a day. As this proposal was not accepted, we will not participate in that event.

Which associate is currently working on what ?

On
igenealogy.lu, we updated the files of L. JUNG-MEYER with 2,079 people and of Fritz BLOES with 12,204 people. We added a file of André BIEWERS with 7,100 people. This database now holds 74 genealogies with 178,000 people.

Acts of notaries
Marianne EHMANN transmitted us a firther file of the notary Nicolas KNAUS: Wiltz (1758) and now 6,140 records are indexed.
The search can be performed based on the name of the notary, by locality name or family name of the involved people and entering at least the desired decade. The transaction then returns a list of documents relating to these filters and proposes, where available, a link URL image to the notary folder on the FamilySearch.org website. The notary's deed in question will appear after entering the number indicated in the above-mentioned link in the appropriate box.
For this project, we are looking for further associates to advance in this interesting and useful project.
