luxroots.club asbl - your Genealogy Club in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

Dear subscribers, dear visitors of our websites

Genealogy is a wonderful hobby, and a complete genealogy is not (yet) available on a mouse click. In earlier times, family researchers worked for years or even decades to establish a fairly complete genealogy. Today, new technologies allow it to go much faster, and with a little luck, you can succeed in a few years.
In any case, much work is or has been invested in your genealogy, and sometimes or even in most cases, our children are not interested in our Sisyphean task, let alone other heirs. Often your work is not respected and subsequently abandoned. For this reason, it is appropriate to take timely precautions.
luxroots is a nonprofit organization that offers several alternatives to save genealogical research of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and border regions including those of the descendants of emigrants from that region.
  1. First, we offer our suite of applications myluxroots, to manage your genealogy online in our database.
More than 100 of our subscribers have already used myluxroots to enter their recent family members, to add photos, funeral notices, studies, jobs, functions, death data, or other information. Check the last 30 uploaded pictures
    with this link.
At the request of many subscribers, applications were modified so that subscribers may register information on anyone born from 1850 always respecting the Luxembourg legislation. Since the 1800-1923 births of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (and border regions) are already or will be entered by our associates, please limit your entries to persons born abroad or in Luxembourg after 1923.
    Use foremost the transaction
Add a child of a couple in order that the child is related to his parents and thus a pedigree chart can be produced for that child.
Please note that those born during the last 100 years can only be viewed by the subscriber having entered these persons.
  2. igenealogy.lu, our website for free publishing your genealogy research which we receive from you in a GEDCOM file. GEDCOM is the international exchange format of genealogical data and almost all genealogy programs can export your data in this format. Export your data in a GEDCOM file with ANSI option and send us the file and we will publish it free of charge to igenealogy.lu. This is already a good backup of your data.
76 family researchers trust us and sent us GEDCOM files for a total of 191,500 people.
  3. Some family researchers do not manage their genealogy with a genealogy program, but rather with a word processing program, a spreadsheet or another program. In this case, we can suggest a second backup of your data entered into a PDF document. Your family genealogy that you created without computer assistance can be scanned into a PDF document. These PDF documents may or may not be used for publication of your research.
  4. In any case, do not wait too long to safeguard your genealogical work and choose already now the person or organization who will get the requirement to maintain and/or publish your research!

Today, more than 600 users support the project luxroots.com by one of our subscriptions!

Luxroots is the genealogical association in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg where its associates do not work on personal databases, but they enter data online directly to the luxroots-database. That's why working together makes us so powerful. Provided that you are able to analyze records of civil registers or even of parish registers, and you want to be part of a dynamic team of volunteers as part of the cross-border and non-profit project,
please contact us!
You do not need to go to townships or to archives. luxroots makes available to its associates the pictures of the records of a certain township/parish free of charge which they plan to analyze and enter the details in the luxroots-database.
Do not hesitate to participate in this great puzzle of genealogy of Luxembourg by analyzing and capturing the details of the records of your preferred township or parish. Check our inventory of records of townships/parishes
to be analyzed soon or other available documents.

FamilySearch.org is the leading provider of document copies about genealogy. In recent years, they gradually put on the Internet copies of records of the civil registers of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and of the Kingdom of Belgium. Since January 9th, 2015, they have also posted copies of the records of the parish registers of the Grand Duchy. To get there, use the links on our front page..
Links also direct you to the State Archives in Belgium where you can view (after free identification) copies of records of the civil and parochial registers of Belgium. Departmental archives of France are also accessible with these links.
