Dear subscribers, dear visitors of our websites, dear friends

The genealogy group luxroots.com asbl has the sad duty to report the death of its associate Mr Charles THIELEN who died on February 20th, 2017. Charel joined our team in 1985 with work on the parishes of Lorentzweiler and Steinsel, on the census of 1766 and on his families.
We join the family in their mourning and express our deepest sympathy to his family.

Today 60 volunteers are working within the luxroots project, which offers them a beautiful, educational and future-oriented hobby. Become a luxroots volunteer too!
luxroots offers great help to family researchers with access to their databases. Today, more than 5,300 visitors are registered at www.luxroots.com. More than 950 have registered as members of the luxroots.club association. luxroots confirms its leading position in genealogy in Luxembourg far exceeding the overall number of members of other genealogical associations of Luxembourg.. If you are not yet among these people, join them now!
Our project is developing very well. Up to now, 1,500,000 records have been analyzed and their details are entered in the common database. The details of 99% of the births 1798-1923, of 92% of the marriages 1840-1923 and 61% of the baptisms before 1800 of the Grand Duchy are available to our subscribers.
We recently had the opportunity to present our project to the Diocesan Archives in Luxembourg, to the National Archives in Luxembourg, and to the Genealogy Association of the University for the Third Age in Liège.

During the past years, the genealogy group luxroots has entered the details of 28,706 births and baptisms of the parish and city of Echternach for the period 1637 to 1923 in our database. The most common surnames are: WAGENER(576), WELTER(390), ZIMMER(346), WEBER(327), PRIM(322), LANSER(312), SCHMITT, SCHILTZ, MÃœLLER, OLINGER, MEYER, DIESCHBOURG, DELL, HERCKES, OLLINGER, SCHMIT, MAAS, BINSFELD, WALDBILLIG, KEIFFER, PRÃœM, THIEL, WELSCHBILLIG, DIEDERICH, CAMPILL, SCHMIDT(125), ...
22,718 people (of these 28,706) were born in the city of Echternach. The details of 3,737 marriages 1776 to 1923 have also been entered and therefore, our subscribers can create within 2 seconds lists of descendants of an ancestor as for example for
Jacobus CAMPILL born in ~1658. We assume that all the CAMPILL and variants of that name (in the Grand Duchy) are descendants of that person. We searched for our subscribers on the basis of entered records 469 descendants of Jacobus for the 7 subsequent generations (until 1923).
But where does this CAMPILL come from? Did he come from the Tyrolean region like other immigrants at this period after the 30-year war (1618-1648), perhaps from
Campill in the Campill valley or is he rather descending of Irish immigrants?

Another discovery is presented to us by our associate Jean-Paul GASPERINI currently working on the marriages 1796-1839 of Frisange. By the marriage January 10th, 1797 Caspar LORANG, born on 21.2.1776 in Frisange under the surname LORRENT marries with the cousin of his father Barbara LORENT born on 13.12.1765 in Peppange and the couple will have children under the variants of name: LORENT, LORANG, LAURENT, and LORRANT.

Our subscriber Fred SCHAAF sent us an article about the Consdorfer Heimatforscher published in the Warte of the Luxemburger Wort dd. March 2nd, 2017. For more information thereon, contact Fred!

How to link a death notice I found on eluxemburgensia.lu with the record of the deceased person in luxroots? See our Demo-Video. (We suggest to open the video with the Firefox Browser.)

Through the myluxroots transactions, more than 300 subscribers and associates have already entered their recent family members to luxroots linking them to the ancestors already entered earlier by our volunteers. If you add 7 family members (1924-2017) in our database, then it is possible that you get back a pedigree chart with 1,000 ancestors (10 generations), and this in 10 minutes, not to mention the ability to create lists of descendants of these ancestors instantly. In Luxembourg, you will find nothing comparable to our project and for this reason, please help us to assemble the large Grand Duchy of Luxembourg genealogy puzzle and the neighboring regions. Check the pedigree charts of Christiane, Hortense, Paulette and Serge. Do the same, we will support you!

Let us build together the genealogy tree of Luxembourg! luxroots is the genealogical association in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg whose volunteers do not work on personal databases, but enter data online directly to the non-profit luxroots-database.
That's why working together makes us so powerful. If you are able to analyze records of civil registers or even of parish registers, and you want to be part of a dynamic team of volunteers as part of the cross-border and non-profit project, please contact us!
You do not need to go to townships or to archives. luxroots makes available to its associates the pictures of the records of a certain township/parish free of charge which they plan to analyze and enter the details in the luxroots-database.
Do not hesitate to participate in this great puzzle of genealogy of Luxembourg by analyzing and capturing the details of the records of your preferred township or parish. Check our inventory of records of townships/parishes
to be analyzed soon or other available documents.

Our next newsletter will be sent on Wednesday, April 26th, 2017.
