Dear friends and visitors of our websites

Unfortunately, we have to start this newsletter with very sad news, announcing the loss of one of our collaborators, as Jos ZIMMER, died July 27th, 2014 after a short illness at the age of 65 years.
He joined the genealogy project luxroots.com as associate in November 2012 to work on the births of the City of Esch-sur-Alzette.
We join the family in their mourning and express our deepest sympathy to his wife and his children.
Jos, thank you for your kindness and your commitment to our project which will keep a memory of you forever.

The long evenings in autumn and winter are ideal to start or restart one’s genealogy, this beautiful leisure activity to search for one’s ancestors.

With easier access to authentic documents, including the posting of copies of genealogical records and displaying details of records already registered and published on websites, access to genealogy is open for the majority of people of all social classes.

Looking into one’s genealogy is a nice hobby, but often requires patience and a lot of persistence. The major problems facing the genealogist are the writings in records and the migration of people. Thus, deciphering the writing of a single act is still a great challenge; often a novice researcher abandons his goal after the first difficulties in reading the acts. If the ancestors were married in a more remote area or abroad or have been transferred for work (shepherds, police officers, customs officers, crafts, ...), it is difficult for researchers to find them and present a complete genealogy. These are the problems that our site will help you solve.

This is why many researchers have joined our project and build together - in a very active group - the great puzzle of genealogy Luxembourg: working in a team, building relationships, supporting each other in deciphering records that are difficult to read: an interesting hobby, informative and useful for the future; a captivating work with the new computer technologies. So many reasons
to join us.

Luxroots now manages by far the largest genealogical database of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and is happy to assist you in finding your ancestors. Despite the abundance of information on our websites, there are still a lot of questions, as shown by the messages to which we respond regularly.

For this reason, we have already put in place, a few months ago,
a page of questions and answers. There, you will already find many solutions to your genealogical problems.

In addition, and again to serve you better, we have now implemented a HELPDESK application. This application features thirty types of helps in one of the four languages offered (Luxembourgish, French, German and English) and allows you to find one of our correspondents that, hopefully, can help you. During the launch of this application, all types of assistance are free of charge. Subsequently, more than half of the categories of help remain free of charge while others will be compensated with myluxroots points.

So, enjoy these early times
to ask your questions.

During the month of August 2014, the luxroots.com associates finished the following data input:
3.298 births 1870-1883 of the City of
Esch-sur-Alzette by Jos ZIMMER (+)
3.079 births 1850-1894 of the township of
Hesperingen by Georges EICHER
738 marriages 1840-1923 of the township of
Dippach by Josée and Richard OSTER-RASQUIN
Which associate is currently working on what ?

igenealogy.lu now holds 74 genealogies with 179,000 people.Publish yours too!
Recently one of our subscribers wrote to us that he wants to upload his research to luxroots to preserve them for posterity.
That person is right to think about that. However, many researchers forget, or do not dare to think of what may happen to their work after a computer crash or even later when the author has disappeared.
We must therefore take precautions now. Regular backups of genealogical data, pictures, etc. to external media (USB stick or hard disk) should become a habit. It would be prudent to keep this support in another area of the house or even hire a safe in a bank.
Your research had required a lot of work. By publishing your research on the Internet (and this is already a good backup of your data), you can also give great pleasure to other family researchers and you find perhaps new contacts with new information for your additional research.
Therefore, it would be useful to publish your data free of charge on www.igenealogy.lu, a luxroots-website, and thus save the fruit of a lot of work for posterity, as did our subscriber. Our group will arrange for your work to remain accessible across space and time.
Contact us for all question about this topic by mail or Phone(+352) 2799 4713

We require your help to find the dates and places of death of people born in Luxembourg and in the border region, and who later emigrated to other countries. For these people, it is almost impossible to get this information here. If you have such missing information, click on the link add death information (on each card) and enter the missing data. We thank you and we will add 2 points to your
myluxroots points counter.

luxroots subscribers and associates use increasingly our
myluxroots applications to add, in compliance with Luxembourg law, recent members of their family, born from 1895 to today. To these people, they can add studies, jobs, functions, addresses, pictures, links and other information and we honor this collaboration by myluxroots points. Currently, 363 images have been added. Take a look at the last 30 images uploaded. Join myluxroots.
